Venice Design Week 2013, will be held on 12 - 20 October, during the Art Biennale, is a series of events and exhibitions. One of these is the International Design Award open to designers, architects, and creative people of all ages. The initiative is sponsored by the City of Venice and companies that produce design objects.

It is supported by design professors of international schools, colleges and universities.

THEME: “FRIENDLY THINGS”

The International Design Award of Venice Design Week is the forth edition and in 2013 has the theme "FRIENDLY THINGS". The aim of the competition is to inspire participants to create objects used in daily life which respond to the following requirements:

  • must be designed to facilitate the individual and/or community;

  • must be easy to use;

  • must respect the environment;

WHO CAN ENTER THE COMPETITION

The association Vogliadarte.it wishes to bring to the attention of professionals and students in the 2013 edition of the International Award of Venice Design Week as an important opportunity for growth and comparison.

It is possible to enter the competition Venice Design Week Award either individually or as members of one group: in both cases, all participants will be required to deliver their own on-line registration form - available on the website since July 1, 2013 to 31 July, 2013 - and in the case of groups, to nominate a group leader.

DEADLINE

Delivery of submitted items must be by 31 July by 12 a.m. (Italian time), through the website www.venicedesignweek.it

Entry Period/Delivery: 01 July, 2013 – 31 July 2013, 12 a.m. (Italian time).

Award Ceremony: October 19, 2013 during the Venice Design Week that is going to be held October 12 to 20 in Venice.

EVALUATION CRITERIA

The jury members will adhere to the following criteria:

1. adherence of the project presented to the theme "FRIENDLY THINGS" :

  • useful to the individual and/or community;

  • easier to use;

  • attention to sustainability.

2. clear and comprehensible explanation of the project objectives (images, text, graphics).
3. innovation, aesthetics and ergonomics of the objects; 4. quality of processing and description, clarity of content.

METHOD OF PRESENTATION OF PROJECTS

Those interested should submit their applications through the website www.venicedesignweek.it in the period: 01 July, 2013 – 31 July 20131, 12 a.m. Italian time.
The elaborate and description of the projects must be submitted through the online application form together with the application, at the same time. We do not accept other forms of delivery.

Applicants can participate either individually or in groups. The choice of one precludes the possibility of participating in the alternative competition mode. It excludes the possibility of changing the mode of participation after having submitted the application, under penalty of disqualification.

Students: Free (attach to the documentation a copy of certification of enrolment in the school / university; in the case of groups please attach all certificates of registration or extract university book)

ENROLLMENT PROCESS

Online registration through the website www.venicedesignweek.it.

For online registration, it will be required to accept all terms and conditions of the competition. After completing the registration process you will receive confirmation of registration. Registration will be confirmed only after verification by the Secretariat (after a week), of the material submitted and the payment of the fee for the designer, if due.

Please fill in the online form with all the required data:

1. The description of the project must have a minimum size of 300 characters and maximum of 1000 characters including spaces.

2. Photograph of the author or group: image 200x200 pixel - resolution 300 dpi - format file: jpg, png – max dimension 4 MB – file name: surname-name-portrait.jpg.

3. The students have to send the copy of the university/school card - format file: pdf, jpg, png, zip – max dimension 2 MB – file name: surname-name-certificate.pdf – For the group please send only one document with all informations.

4. Every participant (individually or in groups) presents 3 file format A4 horizontal [29,7x21 cm] - resolution 300 dpi - file format: pdf, zip – max dimension 12 MB for each A4 - file name: surname-name-01.pdf ; surname-name-02.pdf ; surname-name-03.pdf (for groups: surname and name of the group leader) - (if you have an European company send us VAT/Taxes number/informations).

5. Payment of the fee by PayPal or bank transfer.

All works validly submitted will be checked by the secretariat so that they will be formally valid and there will be no content that is contrary to public order and/or to any morals.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF PARTICIPATION

The projects submitted must meet the requirements of originality. The participants must ensure in writing that the Works submitted are original, personal and do not infringe the intellectual property rights of third parties. Moreover, if the Work have already been presented and disseminated or have already been patented or registered, this must be specified in the project description.

The intellectual property rights of the Works presented remain those of the respective authors who cede to the organization of the award only the right to disclosure and publication in any form and in any media, with the name of the designer or group.

The participants give their consent for the work to be publicly available and used in promotion of the future editions in advertising and public relations associated with the Venice Design Week prize.

Participants agree to submit prints of the projects to the organization if required for a later exhibition.

COMPOSITION AND WORK OF THE COMMISSION

The committee of international design award of Venice Design Week is composed of professors from World universities and design schools and a representative of the Venice Design Week organization.

Jurors will view the projects in September.

The awards will be announced during the closing ceremony of the Venice Design Week on 19 October in Venice. All participants are invited to the closing ceremony of the Venice Design Week.

AWARDS

Prize pool: 5,000 euro

The jury reserves the right to award the first prize only to a project/projects satisfying the evaluation criteria. Moreover, it will not be assigned to any projects if the jury believes, at its discretion, none of the entries meet the criteria. The jury reserves the right to assign each of the awards to two or more projects that are considered as meeting the criteria. The jury will award ex-aequo. Other awards or honourable mentions can be awarded. The prize pool can be changed according to the funding of the initiative.
